AM

The range for most AM (Amplitude Modulated) stations is greater than for FM (Frequency Modulation) especially at night. The longer range may cause stations to interfere with each other. AM picks up the noise from the following items:

    • Storms
    • Power lines

Reduce the treble in order to reduce this interference.

FM STEREO

FM (Frequency Modulated) stereo will deliver the best sound. FM signals will reach approximately 16 to 65 km (10 to 40 mi). Tall buildings or hills may interfere with FM signals, causing the sound to fade and vary. If the reception becomes unacceptable, tune the radio to a different station in order to improve the quality of the reception.

All factory-equipped sound systems with a FM stereo radio will switch to stereo operation whenever a FM stereo broadcast is being received, and a STEREO or ST indicator will light on the display. Stereo operation means the radio is separating a stereo broadcast back into the original left and right channels.

Steering Wheel Controls (UK3)

If the vehicle is equipped with the UK3 option, you will find buttons located on the steering wheel that control certain radio functions.

(3)Windshield
(4)Chassis Ground G390
(5)Windshield Radio Antenna

The antenna (5) in this vehicle is a very thin metal layer in the windshield (3). If you look near the edges of the windshield (3), you will see the outline of the antenna (5). The antenna connector is near the center front of the headliner.

If you have difficulty with remote transmitters, such as a garage door opener, point the device through the top of the windshield (3) where no metal layer exists.

Rear Seat Audio (UK6)

Rear seat audio allows the rear seat passengers to listen to a variety of different musical sources than the front seat passengers. This includes the following items:

    • AM-FM automatic tone control
    • Cassette tapes
    • CDs

Rear seat passengers may listen to a cassette tape or a CD through the headphones while the driver listens to the radio through the front speakers. The rear seat passengers have separate volume control of the headphones. The front seat audio controls always override the rear seat audio controls.

    • UX6: Dual Front Speaker System
    • UZ4: Dual Front Door Extended Range and Dual Rear Liftgate Extended Range Speaker System
