Removal Procedure

Tool Required:

J 39348 Fuel Sender Spanner Wrench

Notice: Do Not handle the fuel sender assembly by the fuel pipes. The amount of leverage generated by handling the fuel pipes could damage the joints.

Important: Always replace the fuel sender gasket when reinstalling the fuel sender assembly.

  1. Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  3. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  4. Clean all of the fuel pipe connections, all of the hose connections, and all of the areas surrounding the connections before disconnecting the connections in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
  5. Remove the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Using the J 39348 Fuel Sender Spanner Wrench, remove the fuel sender assembly locking nut, the fuel sender assembly and the O-ring from the fuel tank.
  7. Discard the fuel sender assembly O-ring.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 50636  Size: SH
  1. Install the new fuel tank pressure sensor (7) to the modular fuel sender.
  2. Connect the electrical connector to fuel tank vapor pressure sensor.
  3. Reinstall the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Add fuel and reinstall the fuel fill cap.
  6. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in engine electrical
  7. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  8. 7.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    7.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    7.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    7.4. Check for fuel leaks.
