Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 14714 Size: SH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the serpentine drive belt from crankshaft pulley.
  3. Raise the vehicle on hoist.
  4. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer retaining bolt.
  5. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer.
  6. Note the routing of sensor harness before removal.
  7. Remove the harness retaining clip with bolt (1).
  8. Remove the sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the sensor bolts (2).
  10. Remove the sensor.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 14714 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the 24X Crankshaft Position Sensor with bolts (2) and route harness as noted during removal.
  2. Install the harness retaining clip with bolt (1).
  3. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (8 lb ft).

  4. Install the sensor electrical connector.
  5. Install the balancer on the crankshaft using special tool (J 29113).
  6. Apply thread sealer GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent to threads of the crankshaft harmonic balancer bolt.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 150 N·m  (110 lb ft).

  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 15969 Size: SH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Turn the steering wheel fully to the left.
  3. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the bolt/screw from the CKP sensor.
  7. Remove the CKP sensor from engine.
  8. Inspect for the following:
  9. 7.1. Inspect the sensor for wear, cracks, or leakage. Replace the O-ring if necessary.
7.2. Lubricate a new O-ring with clean engine oil before installing the O-ring.

Installation Procedure
