Removal Procedure

Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

  1. Remove the front bumper fascia.
  2. • For Chevrolet vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
    • For Oldsmobile vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
    • For Pontiac vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
  3. Use the J tool in order to remove the push-in retainers from the front bumper energy absorber.

  4. Object Number: 314044  Size: SH
  5. Remove the front bumper energy absorber from the front impact bar.
  6. Remove the front impact bar bolts from the rail.
  7. Remove the front impact bar from the frame rail.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 314044  Size: SH
  1. Align the front impact bar to the frame rail.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the front impact bar bolts to the frame rail.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the front bumper energy absorber to the front impact bar.
  6. Install the push-in retainers to the front bumper energy absorber.
  7. Install the front bumper fascia.
  8. • For Chevrolet vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
    • For Oldsmobile vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
    • For Pontiac vehicles, refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
