Inspect the SWC ACCY fuse.

Is the fuse open?

  1. Repair a short to ground in CKT 443.
  2. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Backprobe between connector C205 terminal A and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

  1. Repair a poor connection or an open in CKT 443.
  2. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Steering Wheel Control System Check

  1. Disconnect the steering column connector C205.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance between the steering column harness connector C205 terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the steering wheel control buttons one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the following list:
  5. • Volume up: 1270 ohms
    • Volume down: 1564 ohms
    • Play: 1912 ohms
    • Mute: 2387 ohms

Do all of the resistance values approximately equal the values listed above?

  1. Disconnect the right side radio control switch.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance between the right side steering wheel control switch harness connector terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the steering wheel control buttons one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the following list:
  5. • Volume up: 1270 ohms
    • Volume down: 1564 ohms
    • Play: 1912 ohms
    • Mute: 2387 ohms

Do all of the resistance values approximately equal the values listed above?

  1. Inspect for a poor connection at the steering wheel switch harness connector.
  2. If the connection is OK, replace the right side steering wheel radio control switch.
  3. • For Oldsmobile refer to Steering Wheel Control Switches Replacement
  4. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Inspect for a poor connection at the steering wheel switch harness connector.
  2. If the connection is OK, replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in Supplement Inflatable Restraint (SIR) Tilt Steering Column.
  3. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Backprobe between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 10

  1. Repair a short to B+ in CKT 1796.
  2. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Backprobe between B+ and the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Repair a short to ground in CKT 1796.
  2. Test the system again.

Is the repair complete?

Test for a poor connection or an open in CKT 1796 between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and connector C205 terminal C.

Is there a poor connection or an open in the circuit?

  1. Repair a poor connection or an open in CKT 1796.
  2. Test the system again.

  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance between the steering column harness connector C205 terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the steering wheel control buttons one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the following list:
  5. • Seek up: 3102 ohms
    • Seek down: 4282 ohms
    • Scan: 6652 ohms
    • AM/FM 13632 ohms

Do all of the resistance values approximately equal the values listed above?

  1. Disconnect the left side radio control switch.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance between the left side radio control switch harness connector C205 terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the steering wheel control buttons one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the following list:
  5. • Seek up: 3102 ohms
    • Seek down: 4282 ohms
    • Scan: 6652 ohms
    • AM/FM 13632 ohms

Do all of the resistance values approximately equal the values listed above?

  1. Test for a poor connection at the steering wheel switch harness connector.
  2. If the connection is OK, replace the left side steering wheel radio control switch.
