SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON RATTLES COMING FROM THE 2ND AND 3RD ROW SEAT ASSEMBLIES.
CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO LOOSENESS IN THE SEAT BACK AND THE RELEASE MECHANISM.
THE LOOSENESS CONDITION MAY BE CORRECTED BY INSTALLING THE NEW SERVICE KIT, GM P/N 10402691, AND USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE. THE REPAIR CONSISTS OF REMOVING THE SEAT FROM THE VEHICLE, ADDING A PLASTIC "WASHER" TO THE RELEASE MECHANISM ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRAME (SEE FIGURE 1), AND REPLACING THE SEAT BACK BUMPER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME (SEE FIGURE 2).
PROCEDURE -
1. REMOVE THE AFFECTED SEAT FROM THE VEHICLE AND PLACE ON A CLEAN WORK SURFACE.
2. REMOVE BOTH BLACK PLASTIC COVERS FROM THE REAR OF THE SEAT FRAME TO EXPOSE THE SEAT BACK RELEASE (RIGHT SIDE) AND SEAT BACK BUMPER (LEFT) AREAS.
3. REMOVE THE RIGHT SIDE SEAT BACK PIVOT BOLT AND REPLACE THE EXISTING BUSHING ON THE BOLT WITH ONE FROM THE KIT.
4. INSERT THE PLASTIC WASHER BETWEEN THE RELEASE LATCH PLATE AND THE INNER SURFACE OF THE FRAME TO ACT AS A "SPACER" (SEE FIGURE 1). APPLY A LIGHT COATING OF LUBRICANT (SUCH AS GM #12346293 LUBRIPLATE LUBRICANT, OR EQUIVALENT) TO THE LATCH PLATE, WASHER AND INNER SURFACE OF FRAME TO ENSURE SMOOTH OPERATION.
5. REINSTALL THE SEAT BACK PIVOT BOLT WITH NEW BUSHING AND TORQUE TO 24 N.M (18 LB FT).
6. USING AN ELECTRIC DRILL AND A 4.0 MM (5/32 IN.) DRILL BIT, DRILL OUT THE SEAT BACK BUMPER ATTACHING RIVET FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT (SEE FIGURE 2).
7. REMOVE AND DISCARD THE SEAT BACK BUMPER LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT UPPER FRAME.
8. INSTALL NEW SEAT BACK BUMPER IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION ON THE SEAT FRAME, USING THE RIVET INCLUDED IN THE KIT.
9. REINSTALL BOTH BLACK PLASTIC COVERS TO THE SEAT FRAME.
10. REINSTALL THE SEAT IN THE VEHICLE.
11. REPEAT STEPS 1 THROUGH 10 FOR THE REMAINING 2ND AND 3RD ROW SEATS IN THE VEHICLE.
