REAR COIL SPRING CLICKING (ORIENT SPRINGS TO NEW SPEC.)

SUBJECT: REAR COIL SPRING CLICK/CLUNK NOISE - ORIENTATE SPRINGS TO NEW SPECIFICATION

MODELS/YEARS: 1992 SILHOUETTE

CONDITION: Some 1992 Silhouettes assembled prior to vehicle number NT300214 may exhibit a metallic click/clunk noise audible in the passenger compartment, coming from the rear of the vehicle.

CAUSE: Rear coil spring contacts axle spring seat due to incorrect spring orientation.

CORRECTION: Following applicable procedure in Service Manual, Section 3D orientate rear springs as shown in the illustration below ensuring insulators are also properly positioned under spring.

This orientation supersedes the one shown in Figure 1 on page 3D-1 of the 1992 Silhouette Service Manual. In addition, step 1 of install or Connect Springs and insulators on page 3D-4 should refer to Figure 1 instead of Figure 4. Please make note of these revisions in your copies of the service manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
