SPECIAL POLICY: CYLINDER BLOCK ADJUSTMENT

MODELS/YEARS 1984 OMEGA AND CUTLASS CIERA MODELS EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L 4-CYLINDER ENGINE (VIN CODE R)

CONDITION

Some 1984 Omega and Cutlass Ciera models equipped with a 2.5L L-4 engine (VIN Code R) may experience cracks in the cylinder block casting between the valve lifter cavity and the water jacket, resulting in a loss of engine coolant and subsequent engine failure.

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT

Should the engine block crack due to certain conditions, General Motors will replace the partial engine and certain associated parts. Refer to Dealer Technical Bulletin 84-T-27 for information regarding the service procedure and dealer claim submission.

The Special Policy covers both parts and labor for a period of five (5) years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service.

This "Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin" and a copy of Dealer Technical Builetin 84-T-27 should be filed in the 3-ring binder furnished to the dealer by General Motors.

Claims for customer reimbursement for previously paid repairs are to be submitted as outlined in Dealer Technical Bulletin 84-T-27.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
