SPEEDOMETER AND CRUISE CONTROL REPAIR INFORMATION
OLDSMOBILE POLICY
New Car Limited Warranty
Speedometers and cruise control transducer assemblies are both warranted under the "New Car Limited Warranty" for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Units requiring repair during the warranty period must be sent to and authorized AC-Delco Repair Center.
Extended Warranty Vehicles
Speedometers and cruise control transducer assemblies repaired on vehicles with over 12,00 miles and/or 12 months but covered by the optional limited warranty extension will require a copy of the Extended Warranty Approval Card (Olds 748) to be submitted with the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078) Fig.1. The Extended Warranty Approval Card should be located in the owners warranty folder. This will provide the Warranty Repair Center with evidence that the vehicle is covered for the extended warranty period.
Dealer - Installed GM Cruise Control
Dealer installed cruise control components will be warranted for either the 90 days/4,000 miles parts warranty or for the remainder of the vehicle's original new car limited warranty, whichever is greater.
Exchange Program
Many AC-Delco centers offer an exchange program for 1983 speedometers and cruise control transducers in need of repair. However, prior approval of the owner to accept a repaired unit must be obtained and noted on the repair order. The program is very helpful in handling touring owners of an owner who objects to driving with the unit removed.
Participation in the exchange program is voluntary on the part of the AC-Delco center; therefore, all centers do not offer this service. Dealers should check with their AC-Delco center to see if the exchange program is available and if the specific repaired unit is in stock.
PROCEDURE
Whether repairing or obtaining an exchange unit, dealers should never refer the owner to the AC-Delco center, but should handle the transaction for the owner as follows:
Remover the malfunctioning unit from the car, fill in the upper section of the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078) (Fig. 1), and send the unit and all (5) five copies of the completed form to the authorized AC-Delco Repair/Exchange center in their area.
All cruise control transducers must be accompanied by the resume valve as these components are tested as an assembly. Diesel cruise control transducers may only be sent to AC-Delco centers authorized as "Diesel Cruise Control Repair Centers.
Speedometers and cruise control transducers must be assembled to be eligible for the exchange program when available and the dealer requesting the exchange will be charged for any missing or damaged parts.
NOTICE
For details about the servicing of odometers, refer to Part X, Section B, of the 1983 Oldsmobile Service policies and procedures manual.
The AC-Delco center will return the repaired or exchanged unit and the dealer copy of the claim to the dealer with the AC-Delco (white area) portion filled out. The dealer will reinstall the unit in the owner's vehicle.
OLDSMOBILE WARRANTY CLAIM
The dealer is to submit an Oldsmobile warranty claim for the R & R of the unit and freight charges. The dealer copy of the Form ACD-1078 and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be attached to the repair order scrapping copy, which is attached to the scrapping copy of the Oldsmobile warranty claim.
If the repair is done by the dealer, or sublet to a non AC-Delco repair station, credit will be allowed on an Oldsmobile warranty claim. Allowances for such repair are included in the Labor Time Guide. Sublet repair charges should be included on the claim with the sublet bill ratained in the usual manner.
An additional 0.2 hour administrative allowance will be paid when units are repaired under warranty by an AC-Delco repair station or other qualified service outlet. This additional time should be added to the published time allowance in the Labor Time Guide and entered in the "labor hours" column of the Oldsmobile Warranty Claim form.
Included in this bulletin is a list of AC-Delco Speedometer and Cruise Control Repair/Exchange Centers. This listing designates those repair centers participating in the speedometer exchange program and those centers also authorized to repair gas and diesel cruise control transducers.
