Some 1992 Tornado/Trofeos built before vehicle number NU300762 may require additional brake pedal travel to activate the brake lights and/or disengage cruise control.
This condition can usually be repaired by adjusting the stop lamp switch. The switch is adjusted by manually pulling up on the brake pedal until the clicking noise from the stop lamp switch can no longer be heard. The adjustment may require more force than in previous model years.
If the switch will not click during adjustment and the brake lights still appear to come on late, replace the stop lamp switch with P/N 3537074, which is currently available from GMSPO.
Replace the switch using the following procedure:
1 .Remove left side sound insulator panel.
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch.
3. Remove the switch from the retainer.
4. Install the new switch into the retainer.
6. Connect the electrical connector.
7. Adjust the switch by pulling back on the brake pedal until no clicks are heard.
8. Verify the operation of the brake lights and cruise control.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
