INSUFFICIENT WARM AIR REWORK DRIVER SIDE DUCTING

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 Oldsmobile & Buick 'C'

A condition may be experienced on some early 1985 Electras of a left to right side heater output imbalance. This can result in the drivers left foot feeling cold.

The condition can be repaired by modifying the baffle and the temperature door as follows:

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the lower instrument panel close out panels and the heater duct.

3. Remove the instrument panel cover, speedometer cluster, instrument panel trim and parts necessary to remove the distribution duct assembly.

4. Remove the air distribution duct assembly.

5. Carefully peel back the seal from the heater evaporator module (See Figure 1) to expose the rivets for, the 'flag' baffle (See Fiqure 2). Be careful not to tear the seal.

6. Centre punch the two rivets and drill them out with a 7/64 in. drill. Remove the 'flag' baffle.

7. Cut a 1-1/4 in. square piece off the bottom of the baffle (See Figure 2).

8. Cut off the bottom 1/4 in. of the temperature door internal perpendicular lip (See Figure 3). Cut off only from side exposed.

9. Reinstall the revised 'flag' baffle and securely pop rivet it in place.

10. Put the seal back in place, reassemble the duct work and instrument panel, and connect the battery.

For warranty purposes use the most applicable labour operation number and claim 1.6 hrs.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
