Backup Lamp Replacement LeSabre
Removal Procedure
- Remove the caps covering
the backup lamp
retaining studs.
- Remove the screws at the outer ends of the backup lamp assembly (2).
- Remove the screws from the license plate pocket.
- Remove the screws that retain the license plate lamps.
- Remove the nuts (1) that retain the backup lamp assembly (2).
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nuts (1) in order
to retain the backup lamp assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts (1) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the screws in order to retain the license plate lamps.
- Install the screws in the license plate pocket.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).
- Install the screws to the outer ends of the backup lamp assembly (2).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
Important: Do not rework or alter the reflective surface of the taillamps.
- Install the caps to the backup lamp retaining studs.
Backup Lamp Replacement 88/LSS
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Turn the bulb/socket counterclockwise
in order to remove from the backup lamp (2).
- Remove the bumper fascia. Refer to
Rear Bumper Replacement
in
Bumpers.
- Remove the clips (3) that retain the backup lamp (2)
to the fascia (1).
- Remove the backup lamp (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the backup lamp (2)
to
the fascia (1).
- Install the clips (3) in order to retain the backup lamp (2)
to the fascia (1).
- Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to
Rear Bumper Replacement
in Bumpers.
- Turn the bulb/socket clockwise in order to connect the socket
to the backup lamp (2).
- Lower the vehicle.
Backup Lamp Replacement Pontiac
Removal Procedure
- Remove the 2 stage
rivets (2)
(2 each side) that retain the outboard lamp fillers to the backup
lamp assembly (1).
- Press the center of the rivet (2) until a click is heard.
- Remove the rivet (2) from the filler.
- Remove the nuts (3) that retain the backup lamp (1)
to the rear compartment lid.
- Remove the bulb sockets from the lamp.
- Remove the backup lamp (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the bulb sockets
to the lamp (1).
- Install the backup lamp (1).

- Connect the nuts (3) to the lamp.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts (3) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
- Reset the 2 stage rivets (2) so that the center
of each rivet (2) is outboard.
- Install the rivets (2) to the lamp fillers.
Important: Do not rework or alter the reflective surface of the taillamps.
- Press the center of the rivets (2) in order to lock the rivets
into position.
Backup Lamp Replacement Regency
Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear compartment trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement
in Body
Rear End.
- Remove the nuts (1)
that retain
the backup lamp (2).
- Remove the electrical connector.
- Remove the backup lamp (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the electrical
connector to the
backup lamp (2).
- Install the backup lamp (2).
Important: Tighten all of the retaining nuts (1) until the retaining nuts
are fully seated.
- Install the nuts in order to retain the backup lamp (2).
- Install the rear compartment trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement
in Body
Rear End.
