Shift Lever Hard to Pull Into Manual Low Gear (Replace Shift Indicator)

Some customers may comment that the shift lever is hard to pull into manual low gear.

This condition may be caused due to the shifter boot material being taut on the front side and therefore, may restrict rearward movement of the shifter lever.

Replace the shift indicator as follows:

1. Remove the shift knob retaining clip and shift knob.
2. Open the floor console and release the cup holder. Remove the shift plate screws.
3. Remove the shift plate and disconnect the traction control electrical connector, if equipped.
4. Remove the shift indicator screws.
5. Remove the PRNDL lamp from the shift indicator and remove the shift indicator.
6. Install the PRNDL lamp to the new shift indicator.
7. Install the shift indicator screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m(18 lb in).

8. Connect the traction control electrical connector, if equipped, and install the shift plate.

Tighten
Tighten shift plate screws to 2 N·m(18 Ib in).

9. Return the cup holder to the original position.
10. Install the shift knob and the retaining clip.
