The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Dealer may inquire about new engine assemblies about the lower crankcase half appears to be a used part and there appears to be cracks at near oil pan rail. The engine part numbers are 12458123 and 12458124.
The upper and lower Crankcase halves come from two different sources. The upper is machined in the U.S. - Bright Aluminum appearance.
Lower Half is machined in Canada - of which the supplier coated the finished part with corrosion inhibitor - Dark Brown appearance. This brown protective coating can be easily cleaned off with Aerosol brake/carb cleaner at the time of installation of the engine assembly.
Lower Crankcase half appears to have what many believe are cracks in the casting. These lines are actually Surface Casting Flash from the casting die process. This flashing is only external appearance and has no effect on the operation or durability of the engine.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
