Does the scan tool power up?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to communicate with each module on the E and C Data Line.

Does any module(s) on the E and C Data Line circuit communicate with the scan tool?

Go to Step 5

Test the Battery positive voltage circuit(s), and the ignition voltage circuit(s) of the Radio for an open. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable schematic. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Control Module References for the applicable Diagnostic System Check in Data Link Communications

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Test the ground circuit(s) of the Radio for an open. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable schematic. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Do both modules on the E and C Data Line circuit communicate with the scan tool?

Test the Battery positive voltage circuit(s), and the ignition voltage circuit(s) of the CD Player for an open. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable schematic. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Test the ground circuit(s) of the CD Player for an open. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable schematic. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool, if connected.
  3. Test the E and C Data Line circuit between the DLC connector, Radio and the CD Player for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the E and C Data Line circuit between the DLC connector, Radio and the CD Player for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the module that will not communicate to the scan tool.
