Removal Procedure

Notice: Care should be taken to avoid chipping or scratching the coating when handling the suspension coil spring. Damage to the coating can cause premature failure.

  1. Remove the three strut-to-body mount nuts.
  2. Raise the vehicle and suitably support the frame. Allow the control arms to hang free. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Scribe the strut to the knuckle. Refer to Strut and Knuckle Scribing .
  5. Notice: The knuckle must be retained after the strut-to-knuckle bolts have been removed. Failure to observe this may cause ball joint and/or wheel drive shaft damage.

  6. Remove the strut to knuckle bolts.
  7. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  8. To service the strut refer to Strut, Strut Component, and Spring Replacement .

Installation Procedure

Notice: Care should be taken to avoid chipping or scratching the coating when handling the suspension coil spring. Damage to the coating can cause premature failure.

  1. Install the strut into place.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install three strut to body mount nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the strut to body mount nuts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  5. Install the strut to knuckle bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts to 122 N·m (90 lb ft).

  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Adjust wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
