Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 183013  Size: SH
  1. Remove the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Pull back the carpet.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable and pedal. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  4. Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  5. Remove the intermediate steering shaft boot bolts.
  6. Remove the intermediate steering shaft boot.
  7. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the instrument panel harness.

  9. Object Number: 183001  Size: SH
  10. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to push the instrument panel harness grommet through the dash panel reinforcement.
  11. Remove the instrument panel harness through the dash panel reinforcement.
  12. Remove the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  13. Remove the dash panel reinforcement nuts.

  15. Remove the dash panel reinforcement.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 183005  Size: SH
  1. Install the dash panel reinforcement.
  2. Install the dash panel reinforcement nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the dash panel reinforcement nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  4. Install the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  5. Object Number: 183001  Size: SH
  6. Install the instrument panel harness through the dash panel reinforcement.
  7. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to push the instrument panel harness grommet through the dash panel reinforcement and seat grommet into the dash panel reinforcement.

  8. Object Number: 183013  Size: SH
  9. Connect the electrical connectors to the instrument panel harness.
  10. Install the intermediate steering shaft boot.
  11. Install the intermediate steering shaft boot bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the intermediate steering shaft boot bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  13. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  14. Install the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  15. Connect the accelerator cable and pedal. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  16. Reposition the back carpet.
  17. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
