Problem

Action

The shoe grooves may have burrs or dirt.

  1. Clean the shoe grooves.
  2. Inspect the shoe grooves.
  3. Replace the shoe grooves as needed. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle orSteering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The shoe lock spring is weak or broken.

  1. Clean the shoe lock.
  2. Inspect the shoe lock spring.
  3. Replace the components that are affected.Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle orSteering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The shoe is seized on a pivot pin.

  1. Clean the pivot pin.
  2. Inspect the pivot pin.
  3. Replace the components affected.Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle orSteering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
