Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.

  2. Object Number: 294335  Size: SH
  3. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the pump.

  4. Object Number: 282134  Size: MH
  5. Remove the power steering line at the gear performing the following steps:
  6. 3.1. The pressure line is the lower line at the steering gear.
    3.2. Using a 18 mm (crow's foot line wrench with a 2 foot long, 3/8 inch drive extension.
    3.3. Access the line from the engine compartment, between the rocker arm cover and the front of the dash mat.
  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Remove the power steering pressure line from the clamps on the steering gear.
  10. Remove the power steering pressure line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pressure line to the vehicle.
  2. Install the power steering pressure line to the clamp on the steering gear.
  3. Lower the vehicle.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the power steering pressure line to the steering gear.
  6. Use a 18 mm crow's foot line wrench with a 2 foot long, 3/8 inch drive extension.

    Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pressure line fitting to the steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

    Important: Ensure the rubber sleeve contacts the transaxle brace as an anti-rotational feature.

  7. Install the power steering pressure line to the power steering pump.
  8. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  9. Fill the system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  10. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  11. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks .
