Action

There is air in the power steering system.

  1. Inspect the power steering system.
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The column to steering gear joints are loose or worn.

  1. Inspect the joints from the steering column to the steering gear for damage or loosness. Tighten to the correct torque specifications.
  2. Replace the joints from the steering column to the steering gear as needed. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The steering gear is loose.

Tighten the steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends for loosness or damage.
  2. Replace the tie rod ends as needed. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The wheel drive shaft bearing is loose.

Repair or replace the wheel bearing. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement in Front Suspension.

There is excessive play in the steering.
