Condition

Action

The power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose is grounding out.

Inspect the power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose. Verify that the following conditions exist:

    • The mounting is correct.
    • The clearance is correct.

Refer to the appropriate procedure:

The rack bearing adjust is loose.

  1. Tighten the rack bearing.
  2. Adjust to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The steering gear is loose.

Tighten the steering gear mounting bolts to specification.

Refer to the appropriate procedure:

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
  2. Replace the tie rod ends as needed. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The intermediate shaft universal joints are loose.

  1. Service the intermediate shaft universal joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel Column.
  2. Replace the intermediate shaft universal joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
