A CS130D generator is standard equipment on the 3800 V6
L36. The components of this generator include:
• | Built-in regulator with fault detection |
• | Rotor with slip rings and brushes |
• | Internal fans are used to cool the internal components. |
The generator needs the following three connections:
• | The generator output BAT terminal to the battery positive B+. |
• | The L terminal to the PCM. |
• | A ground path through the generator bracket. |
The P, F, and S terminals in the 4-way connector are not used
on this vehicle.
The regulator is temperature compensated, and limits the system voltage
by controlling rotor field current. To help control radio noise, the field
current is switched on and off at a fixed frequency of about 400 cycles
per second while the field circuit is ON. By varying the on-off time, the
correct average field current is obtained to provide the proper system voltage.
At high speeds, the on-time may be 10 percent and the off-time 90 percent.
At low speeds with high electrical loads, on-time may be 90 percent. The
regulated voltage also varies with system temperature.
This generator does not require lubrication. The rotor shaft is mounted
on permanently lubricated bearings at both ends. Each contains a lifetime
grease supply.
