Did you perform the Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check?

Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Is the Theft indicator flashing?

Turn the ignition to the START position.

Does the starter solenoid click?

Did the engine crank?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Place the transmission in Park or Neutral.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the TR Sw. parameter in the Transmission data list.

Does the scan tool display Park or Neutral?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Starter Relay Command parameter in the powertrain control module (PCM) data list.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the scan tool display Enabled?

Go to Step 7

Turn the ignition to the START position.

Does the STARTER relay click?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the CRANK relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the CRANK relay coil and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the CRANK relay coil and the CRANK relay control circuit of the CRANK relay.
  2. Turn the ignition to the START position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 18

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the Engine OFF.
  4. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper between the STARTER relay coil control circuits of the PNP switch.
  5. Turn the ignition to the START position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 17

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the CRANK relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the CRANK relay switch circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a 30-amp fused jumper between the battery positive voltage circuit of the CRANK relay switch circuit and the supply voltage circuit of the starter solenoid.

Does the engine crank?

Test the crank voltage circuit of the CRANK relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Continuity and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the CRANK relay control circuit of the PCM for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Continuity and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
