Load test the battery. Refer to Battery Load Test for service procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Connect a DMM between the positive battery terminal and the starter terminal B.
  3. While measuring voltage on the DMM, turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Is the voltage measured less than the specified value?

0.5V

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a DMM between the negative battery terminal and G113.
  2. While measuring voltage on the DMM, turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Is the voltage measured less than the specified value?

0.5V

Check for engine seizure.

Does the engine show signs of seizure?

Check the positive battery cable (circuit 1) for a poor connection between the starter motor terminal B and the battery.

If connection is OK, then replace the positive battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement for service procedure.

Is the repair complete?

If connection is OK, then replace the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement for service procedure.

Check the negative battery cable (circuit 50) for a poor connection between the engine block and the battery.
