INADVERTENT LOW FUEL WARNING CHIME

SUBJECT: INADVERTENT LOW FUEL WARNING CHIME (ATTACH AN IGNITION FEED TO TERMINAL B3 OF THE CHIME CONTROL MODULE)

MODELS: 1995 OLDSMOBILE EIGHTY EIGHT, NINETY EIGHT WITH INDICATORS CLUSTER (U2E)

VIN BREAKPOINTS:

EIGHTY EIGHT: PRIOR TO SH305637 NINETY EIGHT: PRIOR TO S4305518

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT APPROXIMATELY 40 SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, FOUR REPETITIVE CHIMES SOUND. THIS EVENT OCCURS ONCE PER IGNITION CYCLE.

CORRECTION:

ATTACH AN IGNITION FEED TO TERMINAL B3 OF THE MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME CONTROL MODULE PER THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.

NOTE: ALL WIRING REWORK TECHNIQUES SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS DETAILED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.

2. DISCONNECT THE MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME CONTROL MODULE HARNESS CONNECTOR (REFER TO THE SERVICE MANUAL, PAGE 8A-201-28, FIGURE 64, ITEM: MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME MODULE CONTROLLER).

3. LOCATE PNK (39) CIRCUIT IN CAVITY A3 OF THE MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME CONTROL MODULE.

4. SPLICE A NEW PNK (39) INTO THE EXISTING PNK (39) CIRCUIT APPROXIMATELY 160MM BACK FROM THE FRONT OF THE MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME CONTROL MODULE HARNESS CONNECTOR. THE NEW PNK (39) CIRCUIT WILL NEED TO CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: .5MM(2) PINK WIRE 200MM LONG, STRIPPED ON ONE END AND TERMINATED ON THE OTHER END WITH TERMINAL WHICH IS INCLUDED IN TERMINAL REPAIR KIT J-38125-A.

NOTE: THE NEW SPLICE MUST BE SOLDERED.

5. PLUG TERMINATED END OF THE NEW PNK (39) CIRCUIT INTO CAVITY B3 OF THE MULTI-FUNCTION CHIME CONTROL MODULE HARNESS CONNECTOR.

6. SECURE THE NEW PNK (39) CIRCUIT TO THE EXISTING WIRE HARNESS BUNDLE AND RE-TAPE THE WIRING BRANCH.
