SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON NOISE AND/OR VIBRATION FROM THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR.
THIS NOISE/VIBRATION MAY BE DUE TO THE BLOWER MOTOR BEING OUT OF BALANCE, OR CONTENTS (I.E. TISSUES, PAPERS, ETC.) IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) LOWER COMPARTMENT BEING DRAWN INTO THE BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY THROUGH THE RE-CIRCULATION DOOR DURING MAX A/C MODE.
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, REMOVE BLOWER MOTOR AND INSPECT.
O IF NO OBJECTS ARE FOUND IN BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY, REPLACE MOTOR WITH NEW INTERNALLY BALANCED ASSEMBLY FOLLOWING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE AND INSTALL I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ACCESS HOLE COVER AS DESCRIBED IN THE REPAIR PROCEDURE.
O IF OBJECTS ARE FOUND IN BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY, REMOVE THE OBJECT, CHECK FAN BLADES FOR DAMAGE, REINSTALL MOTOR AND TEST.
O IF BLOWER MOTOR IS QUIET, INSTALL I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ACCESS HOLE COVER AS DESCRIBED IN THE REPAIR PROCEDURE.
O IF BLOWER MOTOR IS STILL NOISY, REPLACE MOTOR WITH NEW INTERNALLY BALANCED ASSEMBLY FOLLOWING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE AND INSTALL I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ACCESS HOLE COVER AS DESCRIBED IN THE REPAIR PROCEDURE.
REPAIR PROCEDURE -
(FOR I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ACCESS HOLE COVER INSTALLATION)
1. REMOVE RIGHT SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL INSULATOR PANEL (HUSH PANEL).
2. REMOVE I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ASSEMBLY (GLOVE BOX) FOLLOWING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE AND PLACE ON A PROTECTED SURFACE.
3. CUT OUT TEMPLATE (FIGURE 1). LOCATE TEMPLATE OFF THE SQUARE INDENTATION ON THE TOP SURFACE OF I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ASSEMBLY (FIGURE 2).
4. DRILL 6.5MM (1/4 INCH) DIAMETER HOLES AS SHOWN ON TEMPLATE (FIGURE 2).
5. REMOVE TWO (2) SCREWS AT TOP CORNERS OF I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT OPENING (FIGURE 4).
6. INSTALL I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ACCESS HOLE COVER. THIS CAN BE DONE BY APPLYING HAND PRESSURE TO THE FOAM ON THE COVER AND SLOWLY COMPRESS FLAT AND HOLD. THE FOAM WILL RETAIN A FLAT SHAPE LONG ENOUGH TO BE INSTALLED THE FIRST TIME IT IS CRUSHED. IF MORE ATTEMPTS ARE MADE, THE FOAM WILL RECOVER FASTER MAKING IT MORE DIFFICULT TO INSTALL. WITH THE CLOTH SIDE OF THE COVER FACING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, ALIGN THE CUT OUT TO THE RIGHT UPPER CORNER OF THE I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT OPENING (FIGURE 4). INSERT THE FOAM AND CLOTH EDGE BETWEEN TOP FORWARD EDGE OF I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT OPENING AND HINGE PILLAR TIE BAR (FIGURE 3) WHILE PUSHING REARWARD IN VEHICLE. POSITION FAR ENOUGH REARWARD TO CAPTURE FOAM ON OTHER SIDE OF PASSENGER SIDE SIR MODULE.
7. RE-INSTALL TWO SCREWS AT TOP CORNERS OF LOWER COMPARTMENT OPENING (FIGURE 4).
8. RE-INSTALL I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT ASSEMBLY WITH ACCESS HOLE COVER HANGING DOWN INSIDE LOWER COMPARTMENT.
9. INSERT ACCESS HOLE COVER ATTACHMENTS TWO (2) FROM INSIDE LOWER COMPARTMENT INTO PREVIOUSLY DRILLED HOLES. ONCE INSTALLED, CLOSE AND CYCLE I/P LOWER COMPARTMENT. THE ACCESS HOLE COVER WILL BE PULLED FORWARD AND ADJUST TO THE OPENING.
