SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CODE 43 (REPLACE TERMINAL)

SUBJECT SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT MAY SET CODE 43 - REPLACE TERMINAL

MODELS/YEARS 1990 CUTLASS SUPREME W/2.3L (VIN D) ENGINE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONDITION:

---------- The "Service Engine Soon" light may come on and set a Code 43, on 1990 Cutlass Supremes with 2.3L (VIN D) engine. The cars may have decreased performance when the code is set.

CAUSE:

------ The terminal in the connector to the spark knock sensor may be improperly formed. This condition is limited to early built 1990 models.

CORRECTION:

----------- Remove the connector from the spark knock sensor and inspect the male terminal in the connector. If the terminal appears normal, use a replacement female terminal to check for proper tension. If the tension is not normal (the female terminal falls out when held upside-down), or if the terminal appears to be flattened, replace the terminal and seal. P/N 12121037 contains both the terminal and seal and is currently available from GMSPO.
