The 1989 Cutlass Supremes (with UT6 option) may have a condition where moving the AUDIO BASS CONTROL knob results in only a small change in the bass response of the audio system. This condition is caused by a voltage drop across the light emitting diode (LED) in the AUDIO BASS CONTROL.
To repair these vehicles, use the following procedure:
1. Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) trimplate (4 screws underneath the top, 4 clips on the bottom).
2. Remove the switch. The switch is clipped to an IP bracket on early cars, or directly to the trimplate on later built cars.
3. Remove the light emitting diode (LED) from the audio bass control assembly (See Figure 1).
4. Reinstall the switch and the trimplate.
Labor Operation Number: R0865 Labor Time: .3 hrs.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
