This bulletin supersedes Dealer Management Bulletin 86-1-07, which should be discarded.
Oldsmobile will be using several different "New Vehicle Warranty and Owner Assistance information" booklets for 1986 models.
* Toronado models use a light brown booklet (part no. 22533221). This booklet is to be used only for Toronado.
* Ninety-Eight models use a dark blue booklet (part no. 22532618). This booklet applies only to Ninety-Eight models.
* All other models use a maroon booklet (part no. 22533238). This booklet reflects the 36/36 powertrain coverage, and may be used for all models except Toronado and Ninety-Eight.
For cars which do not have the "Par Excellence Package" glove compartment portfolio, care must be taken that the proper warranty booklet is included at the time of delivery.
Some early production models used a warranty booklet which listed 24/24 powertrain coverage (part no. 22528012 for Calais models; part no. 22532700 for Firenza, Cutlass Ciera, Cutlass Supreme, Custom Cruiser and Delta 88 models). For any cars in stock with these booklets (including those with the "Par Excellence Package"), the green and white card labeled "1986 General Motors Corporation New Car Limited Warranty Supplement Extended Powertrain Coverage" must be inserted into the warranty booklet at the time of delivery. (For cars which have already been delivered, the supplement card should be mailed to the owner.) See below.
A supply of supplement cards was recently sent to all dealers. Additional copies may be obtained from your Oldsmobile Zone Office.
1986 GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION NEW CAR LIMITED WARRANTY SUPPLEMENT EXTENDED POWERTRAIN COVERAGE (Except Ninety Eight and Toronado)
Upon expiration of the 24 month/24,000 mile Powertrain Coverage of your New Car Limited Warranty, General Motors Corporation will continue to warrant the Powertrain Components up to a total of 36 months or 36,000 miles from the date and mileage shown on the cover of your Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet, whichever comes first. The Powertrain Components are listed on page 8 of the same booklet.
All warranty repairs of Powertrain Components under this extended coverage will continue to be subject to a $100 deductible for each repair visit.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
