This bulletin supplements Dealer Technical Bulletin 87-T-08 dated November 14, 1986.
Comments indicate that some CS-144 Delcotron generaton in the field are being reassembled incorrectly. The internal component must be reassembled and tightened in the order shown in Figure 1.
1. Install rectifier bridge and capacitor. The capacitor strap has an insulator material which rests on the end frame "ground." Bolt rectifier bridge into place.
2. Install regulator and brush holder. The capacitor strap "metal side" touches the regulator connection. Tighten insulated screws.
3. Crimp and solder regulator terminals. Avoid excessive heat.
4. Install stator and tighten nuts.
Assembly in any other manner than shown will result in:
- No output when operated, or - Direct internal ground for output terminal.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
