INCORRECT FAST IDLE SOLENOID RELAY ASSEMBLY

MODELS/YEARS: 1986 CUTLASS CIERA EQUIPPED WITH A 2.8L V-6 ENGINE (VIN CODE X) WITH FEDERAL EMISSIONS & AIR CONDITIONING

CONDITION

General Motors has determined that certain 1986 Cutlass Ciera models equipped with a 2.8L V-6 engine (VIN Code X) with Federal emissions and air conditioning may have been manufactured with an incorrect fast idle solenoid relay assembly which may affect driveability and engine idle and, therefore, may not comply with exhaust emission standards.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Certain 1986 Cutlass Ciera models equipped with a 2.8L V-6 engine (VIN Code X) with Federal Emissions and air conditioning within the following serial numbers:

DEALER ACTION

Dealers are to install a new fast idle solenoid relay assembly, part number 10038792, as described in the Service Procedure Section of this bulletin.

Dealers are to perform this recall campaign at no charge to the owner on affected vehicles regardless of time, mileage, or ownership, and are to correct all affected vehicles in dealer new and used car inventory prior to sale.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.

Dealers are to perform the campaign service on all affected vehicles as they are brought in for any kind of service until all affected vehicles have been corrected.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Install seat and fender covers.

2. Open hood and disconnect negative battery cable from battery. 00 3. Locate and remove existing fast idle solenoid relay (refer to Figure 1).

4. Install new fast idle solenoid, part number 10038792, and reconnect negative battery cable.

5. Install Campaign Identification label. Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Emission Campaign Bulletin will require a Campaign identification label. Each label provides a space to include the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen. When installing label, clean the surface of the radiator upper mounting support and apply the campaign label where it is readily visible.

6. Remove seat and fender covers and close hood.

Parts are to be obtained from WDDGM using the following part number:

To ensure that these parts will be obtained as soon as possible, they should be ordered from WDDGM on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code, but order on an advise code (2).
