Condition

Some owners may comment about a squealing type noise coming from the front brakes during a brake application.

Cause

The squealing noise may be the result of a "slip/stick" condition between the front brake pads and rotors that could cause a high frequency vibration.

Correction

On vehicles built prior to the VIN breakpoints indicated, this condition can be minimized by replacing both front brake rotors with new "dampened iron" rotors, P/N 18060241. Refer to the Disc Brakes sub-section in the appropriate Service Manual.

On 1997 vehicles, the front brake pads should be inspected during rotor replacement to determine if insulators are present on the backside of the pads. If insulators are not present, the brake pads should be replaced with those contained in the front brake pad kit, P/N 18024383.

Important: Guidelines provided in Corporate Bulletin Number 23-50-05B must be followed to insure proper cleaning, lubricating and assembling of brake and related components.
