Important: A short to ground will cause an open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

  1. Disconnect the panel dimmer switch connector.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  3. Connect a test lamp between terminal C and terminal D of the instrument panel dimmer switch connector.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a fused jumper between terminal B of the panel dimmer switch connector and ground.

Are the interior lamps lit?

Repair the open in CKT 151 between the panel dimmer switch and ground splice pack G202. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Interior Lights Dimming System Check

Use a fused jumper in order to backprobe the lamp dimmer module connector between terminal B and ground.

Do the interior lamps turn off?

Go to Step  6

Go to Step  7

Replace the panel dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Switch Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Interior Lights Dimming System Check

Repair the open or short to B+ in CKT 44 between the panel dimmer switch and the lamp dimmer module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the lamp dimmer module. Refer to Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
