A true test of braking capability can only be made under the
following roadway conditions:
• | The roadway is clean and dry |
• | The roadway is reasonably smooth and level |
The tires do not grip the road equally if any of the following roadway
conditions are present:
• | The road is covered with loose dirt |
If these conditions are present, testing is adversely affected as indicated
below:
• | When the roadway is crowned, the weight of the vehicle is thrown
toward the wheels on one side. |
• | When the roadway is too rough, the wheels will bounce. |
Test the brakes at different vehicle speeds with both light and heavy
pedal pressure. Because of a high deceleration capability, a firmer pedal
may be felt at higher deceleration rates.
