Removal Procedure

Caution: To help avoid personal injury, due to a retained load on the brake modulator, the Gear Tension Relief function of the scan tool must be performed prior to removal of the ABS brake modulator/master cylinder assembly.

  1. Use the Scan Tool in order to perform the Gear Tension Relief Sequence.
  2. Remove the Battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the Battery tray. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the upper radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Disconnect the two brake solenoid valve electrical connectors.
  6. Disconnect the Brake Motor Pack electrical connector.

  8. Disconnect the brake pipes. Note Position.

  9. Object Number: 165926  Size: SH
  10. Remove the Hydraulic modulator assembly to bracket mounting nut.
  11. Remove the Hydraulic modulator assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 165926  Size: SH
  1. Install the Hydraulic modulator assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the Hydraulic modulator assembly to the bracket mounting nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the Hydraulic modulator bracket mounting nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Connect the brake pipes from the wheel cylinders to the Hydraulic Modulator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the tube nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the brake pipes from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the tube nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Connect the Brake Motor Pack electrical connector.
  10. Connect the two brake solenoid valve electrical connectors.
  11. Install the upper radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  12. Install the Battery tray. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Install the battery to the vehicle. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  14. Important: Bleed the system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.

  15. Perform the Diagnostic System Check.
