Did you perform A Diagnostic System Check - Automatic Day - Night Mirror?

  1. Place the transmission in PARK.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the inside rear view mirror harness connector.
  4. Measure the resistance of the inside rear view mirror ground circuit to a good ground.

Is the resistance within the specified value ?

1-3 ohms

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Measure the voltage between the Ignition 3 voltage and ground circuit of the mirror harness connector.

Is the voltage within the range specified?

9-16 V

Go to Step 4

Measure the voltage of the mirror harness connector between the mirror back-up lamp supply voltage circuit and the mirror ground circuit .

Is the voltage less than the value specified?

0.5 V

Go to Step 5

  1. Place the transmission in reverse.
  2. Measure the voltage of the mirror harness connector between the back-up lamp supply voltage circuit and the mirror ground circuit.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-16 V

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the driver door module harness connector.
  3. Test the automatic day-night mirror low reference and signal circuits for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing .

  1. Reconnect the inside rear view mirror connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Make sure the transmission is in PARK.
  4. Cover the sensor on the mirror back (facing the front window).
  5. Shine a bright light into the sensor on the mirror face (facing the rear window).

Does the inside rear view mirror darken?

Test the inside mirror ground circuit for an open.

Test the inside mirror ignition 3 circuit for an open or a short to ground.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the inside mirror back-up lamp supply voltage circuit for a short to voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

1.2-1.5 V

Test the inside mirror back-up lamp supply voltage circuit for an open.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inside rear view mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
