Removal Procedure
Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
• | Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on
the inflator module |
• | Make sure the bag opening points away from you |
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag
opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag
opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the
air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal
injury may result.
- Disable the SIR system.
Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Remove passenger (right) insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right
in
Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (4) from
the inflatable restraint instrument panel (IP) module connector (2).
- Remove the inflatable restraint IP module yellow connector (2)
from the vehicle harness yellow connector (1).
- Remove the inflatable restraint IP module yellow connector (2)
from the IP bracket (3).
- Remove the IP upper trim
pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Note the inflatable restraint IP module wire harness routing position,
to help in re-assembly.
- Push the inflatable restraint IP module yellow connector (2)
back away from the IP (3).
- Remove the inflatable
restraint IP module mounting fasteners (2).
- Remove the inflatable restraint IP module (3) from the
IP (1).
- When removing the inflatable restraint IP module (3) care
must be taken not to damage inflatable restraint IP module pigtail (4).
Installation Procedure
- When installing the inflatable
restraint IP module (3) care must be taken not to damage inflatable
restraint IP module pigtail (4).
- Route the inflatable restraint IP module pigtail (4) down
through the IP (1).
- Install the inflatable restraint IP module (3) to the instrument
panel (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the inflatable
restraint IP module mounting fasteners (2).
Tighten
Tighten fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Route the inflatable restraint
IP module wiring harness (2) in place to secure inflatable restraint
IP module yellow 2-way connector clip to IP (3).
- Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper
in Instrument Panel,
Gauges and Console.
- Clip the inflatable restraint
IP module yellow connector (2) to IP bracket (3).
- Install the inflatable restraint IP module yellow connector (2)
to the vehicle harness yellow connector (1).
- Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (4) to the
inflatable restraint instrument panel (IP) module connector (2).
- Install passenger (right) insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right
in
Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
.
