Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Remove the complete exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System in Exhaust System.
  3. Remove the exhaust Y pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement in Exhaust System.
  4. Remove the steering gear retaining bolts from the left side of the gear. Refer to Steering Gear in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  5. Remove the through bolt from the right side of the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  6. Remove the retaining clamp from the power steering lines. Set aside the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hoses in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  7. Support the transmission with a jackstand.
  8. Remove the right-side transmission mount-to-bracket bolt.
  9. Remove the rear transmission mount-to-frame bolts.
  10. Remove the right-side transmission mount and bracket.
  11. Support the rear of the frame with a jackstand.
  12. Remove the rear frame bolts.
  13. Lower the frame in order to gain clearance.
  14. Remove the following parts:
  15. • 4th servo cover
    • Piston
    • Pin
    • Seals

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following parts:
  2. • 4th servo seals
    • Pin
    • Piston
    • Cover

    Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 14 N·m (124 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Raise the frame. Install the rear frame bolts.
  4. Install the right-side transmission bracket and mount.
  5. Install the right-side transmission mount-to-bracket through bolt.
  6. Install the steering gear into position. Refer to Steering Gear in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  7. Install the retaining clamp to the power steering lines. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hoses in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  8. Install the through bolt to the right side of the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  9. Install the steering gear retaining bolts. Refer to Steering Gear in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  10. Install the exhaust Y pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement in Exhaust System.
  11. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System in Exhaust System.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
