Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive axle. Refer to Drive Axle in Drive Axle On Vehicle Service.

  2. Object Number: 15618  Size: SH

    Important : Do not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when removing the seal with a screwdriver.

  3. Remove the drive axle seal (125). First use a screwdriver to pry outer the seal from the transmission. Use pliers in order to remove the remaining housing of drive axle seal from the transmission.
  4. Inspect the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing for corrosion, grooves or nicks.
  5. Clean the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing with crocus cloth.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39051-1 Axle Seal Installer
    • J 39051-2 Axle Seal Installer

    Object Number: 15530  Size: SH

    Important: Do not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when installing the drive axle seal.

  1. Install the drive axle seal (125) in the following way:
  2. • Install the right-hand drive axle seal using the J 39051-1
    • Install the left-hand drive axle seal using the J 39051-2
  3. Install the drive axle. Refer to Drive Axle in Drive Axle On-Vehicle Service.
