SMU-SECTION 6A2-INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 6A2 - INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL PROCEDURE

MODELS: 1995 OLDSMOBILE AURORA WITH 4.0L ENGINE (VIN C - RPO L47)

THE STARTER REPLACEMENT (4.0L) PROCEDURE IN SECTION 6D2 REFERENCES TO SECTION 6A5 FOR INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL. THE PROPER REFERENCE SHOULD BE SECTION 6A2.

THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE 1995 SERVICE MANUAL. TO PROPERLY REMOVE OR REPLACE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND OR GASKET, THE ENSUING STEPS MUST BE FOLLOWED:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT:

1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 2. INTAKE MANIFOLD COVER. 3. PCV HOSE AT INTAKE MANIFOLD. 4. SPARK PLUG WIRES FROM LEFT (FRONT) SIDE OF ENGINE. 5. FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS. 6. ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AT ISC MOTOR, TP SENSOR AND MAP SENSOR. 7. GROUND WIRES AT RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD. 8. VACUUM HOSES AT BRAKE BOOSTER AND THROTTLE BODY. 9. CRANKCASE VENT HOSE AT AIR INTAKE. 10. EGR TUBE. 11. RELIEVE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE. 12. FUEL LINES AND RETAINER BOLT NEAR THROTTLE BODY. 13. AIR INTAKE HOSE. 14. COOLANT HOSES AT THROTTLE BODY AND PLUG HOSES. WRAP A SHOP TOWEL AROUND HOSES WHEN DISCONNECTING TO AVOID SPILLAGE. 15. ACCELERATOR AND CRUISE CABLES AT THROTTLE BODY AND POSITION OUT OF THE WAY. 16. SIX BOLTS AND FOUR STUDS AND REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD.

INSTALL OR CONNECT: (REFER TO ILLUSTRATION)

1. INTAKE MANIFOLD ONTO ENGINE AND INSTALL BOLTS AND STUDS. TIGHTEN BOLTS AND STUDS TO 10 N.M (88 LB. IN.). 2. ACCELERATOR AND CRUISE CABLES AT THROTTLE BODY. 3. COOLANT HOSES AT THROTTLE BODY. 4. AIR INTAKE HOSE. 5. FUEL LINES AND RETAINING BOLT NEAR THROTTLE BODY. 6. EGR TUBE. 7. CRANKCASE VENT HOSE AT AIR INTAKE. 8. VACUUM HOSES AT BRAKE BOOSTER AND THROTTLE BODY. 9. GROUND WIRES AT RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD. 10. ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AT ISC MOTOR, TP SENSOR, AND MAP SENSOR. 11. FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS. 12. SPARK PLUG WIRES. 13. PCV HOSE TO INTAKE MANIFOLD. 14. INTAKE MANIFOLD COVER. 15. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 16. START ENGINE, TOP OFF COOLANT LEVEL, AND CHECK FOR LEAKS.
