Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle P Series

Disassembly Procedure


    Object Number: 447978  Size: SH
  1. Drain the power steering fluid from the power steering pump.
  2. Remove the pump mounting studs (2).
  3. Remove the connector and fitting assembly (4).
  4. Remove the O-ring seal (3).

  5. Object Number: 447982  Size: SH
  6. Remove the reservoir assembly (1) from the pump housing assembly (2).

  7. Object Number: 447957  Size: SH
  8. Remove the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5).
  9. Remove the magnet (3).
  10. Clean the magnet (3).
  11. Inspect the welch plug in the power steering pump housing (2). Do not remove. If the welch plug is deformed or dislodged, replace the power steering pump housing (2).

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 447957  Size: SH

    Important: Use new O-ring seals when assembling the power steering pump assembly.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5) with power steering fluid.
  2. Install the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5) to the pump housing assembly.
  3. Install the magnet (3) to the pump housing assembly (2).

  4. Object Number: 447982  Size: SH
  5. Connect the reservoir assembly (1) to the pump housing assembly (2).

  6. Object Number: 447978  Size: SH
  7. Install the O-ring seal.
  8. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Install the connector and fitting assembly (4) to the pump housing (1).
  10. Install the pump mounting studs (2) to the pump housing (1).

    Tighten

    • Tighten the pump mounting studs (2) to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    • Tighten the connector and fitting assembly (4) to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

Disassembly Procedure


    Object Number: 447962  Size: SH
  1. Remove the pump retaining clips (4).
  2. Remove the reservoir assembly (1) from the pump housing assembly (3).
  3. Remove the O-ring seal (2).
  4. Discard the O-ring seal (2).

  5. Object Number: 447957  Size: SH
  6. Remove the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5).
  7. Remove the magnet (3).
  8. Clean the magnet (3).
  9. Inspect the welch plug in the power steering pump housing (2).
  10. Do not remove the welch plug.

    If the welch plug is deformed or dislodged, replace the power steering pump housing (2).

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 447957  Size: SH

    Important: Use new O-ring seals when assembling the power steering pump assembly.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5) with power steering fluid.
  2. Install the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5) to the pump housing assembly.
  3. Install the magnet (3) to the pump housing assembly (2).

  4. Object Number: 447962  Size: SH
  5. Connect the reservoir assembly (1) to the pump housing assembly (3).
  6. Install the O-ring seal (2).
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the pump retaining clips (4) to the pump housing (3).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the pump retaining clips (4) to 35-80 N·m (29-59 lb ft).
