Removal Procedure

  1. Open and support the hood.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the windshield wiper washer reservoir. Refer to Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement .
  5. Remove the screws securing the underhood fuse block in order to pull the unit away from the fender.
  6. Disconnect the hood latch cable from the primary latch assembly.
  7. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the clip and lift the cable assembly from the primary latch. In order to aid in installation, tie a mechanic's wire to the end of the cable.

  8. Remove the clips that retain the hood release cable.
  9. Pry open the clips with a flat-bladed tool.

  10. Pull the cable back through the opening between the radiator support and the left fender.
  11. Pull the cable back from behind the antilock brake module.

  13. Remove the body hinge trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side .
  14. Remove the hood release cable grommet.
  15. Remove the adhesive tape securing the release cable to the side of the cowl.
  16. Remove the hood release cable and the lever bolts from the cowl side panel.
  17. Remove the hood latch cable assembly from the vehicle.
  18. Guide the cable through the cowl panel underneath the instrument panel from the inside of the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hood latch assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Guide the cable through the cowl panel underneath the instrument panel from the inside of the vehicle.

  3. Guide the cable along the left fender behind the antilock brake module, the underhood fuse block, and the windshield wiper/washer reservoir.
  4. Route the cable around the end of the radiator support.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the hood release cable and the lever bolts to the cowl side panel.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the hood release cable and the lever bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Secure the release cable to the side of the cowl with adhesive tape.

  10. Install the hood release cable to the retaining clips.

  12. Install the hood release cable grommet.

  14. Install the hood latch cable to the latch.
  15. Install the body hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side .
  16. Install the screws securing the underhood fuse block.
  17. Install the windshield wiper/washer reservoir. Refer to Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement .
  18. Connect the negative battery cable.
  19. Close the hood.
