Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
Support the rear axle.
- Remove the following parts:
• | The frame to shackle nut |
- Remove the following parts:
• | The shackle to spring nut |
- Remove the shackle from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the shackle to the vehicle.
- Install the following parts:
• | The shackle to the spring bolt |
• | Do not tighten the nut. |
- Install the following parts:
• | The frame to shackle bolt |
• | Do not tighten the nut. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Support the axle
so that there is a distance of 170 mm ± 6 mm
(6.7 in ± 0.24 in) between the axle tube and the metal
surface of the bumper bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the rear shackle nuts to 122 N·m (89 lb ft).
