Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Support the rear axle in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.

  3. Object Number: 130876  Size: SH
  4. Remove the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 3251  Size: SH
  6. Remove the following parts:
  7. • The U-bolt nuts
    • The washers
    • The anchor plate
    • The U-bolts
  8. Remove the spare tire, if equipped.

  9. Object Number: 3254  Size: SH
  10. Remove the following parts:
  11. • The shackle to frame bolt
    • The shackle to frame washers
    • The shackle to frame nut

    Object Number: 3253  Size: SH
  12. Remove the following parts:
  13. • The front hanger nut
    • The front hanger washers
    • The front hanger bolt
  14. Remove the spring assembly from the vehicle.
  15. Remove the following parts:
  16. • The shackle to spring nut
    • The washers
    • The spring bolt
  17. Remove the shackle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shackle to the rear spring eye.
  2. Install the following parts:
  3. • The spring bolt
    • The washers
    • The shackle to spring nut
    • Do not tighten.
  4. Install the spring assembly to the vehicle.

  5. Object Number: 3253  Size: SH
  6. Install the following parts:
  7. • The spring to front bracket bolt
    • The washers
    • The nut
    • Do not tighten.

    Object Number: 3254  Size: SH
  8. Install the following parts:
  9. • The shackle to the frame bolt
    • The washers
    • The nut
    • Do not tighten.
  10. Remove the spring support.
  11. Install the spare tire.

  12. Object Number: 3251  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Install the following parts:
  14. • The U-bolt nuts
    • The anchor plate
    • The washers
    • The U-bolt nuts

    Tighten

        • Tighten the U-bolt nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Then tighten the U-bolt nuts to 100 N·m (73 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  15. Support the axle in such a way that there is a distance of 170 mm ± 6 (6.7 in ± 0.24 in) between the axle tube and the bumper bracket metal surface.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the front bracket nut and the rear shackle nuts to 122 N·m (89 lb ft).

  17. Install the shock absorber.
