Removal Procedure

Caution: Batteries produce explosive gasses. Batteries contain corrosive acid. Batteries supply levels of electrical current high enough to cause burns. Therefore, to reduce the risk of personal injury while working near a battery:

   • Always shield your eyes.
   • Avoid leaning over the battery whenever possible.
   • Do not expose the battery to open flames or sparks.
   • Do not allow battery acid to contact the eyes or the skin.
        1. Flush any contacted areas with water immediately and thoroughly.
        2. Get medical help.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to General Information.
  2. Disconnect the positive battery cable.

  3. Object Number: 1027  Size: SH
  4. Remove the following parts:
  5. 3.1. The retainer nut
    3.2. The retainer washer
    3.3. The retainer
    3.4. The battery
  6. Inspect the following items for physical damage or corrosion:
  7. • The battery
    • The battery cables
    • The connectors

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1027  Size: SH
  1. Install the following parts:
  2. 1.1. The battery onto a cleaned battery tray
    1.2. The retainer
    1.3. The retainer washer
    1.4. The retainer nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the retainer nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    1.4. Refer to Fastener Tightening Notice in General Information.
  3. Connect the positive battery cable.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
