Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 24420-C Crankshaft Pulley Hub Puller


    Object Number: 38205  Size: SH

    Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt.
  3. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  4. Remove the fan shroud.
  5. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .

  6. Remove the engine cooling fan.
  7. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .

  8. Raise the vehicle.
  9. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.

  10. Object Number: 3446  Size: SH
  11. Remove the hub bolt from the crankshaft pulley.
  12. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  13. Object Number: 3452  Size: SH
  14. Position the J 24420-B puller tool onto the crankshaft hub.

  15. Object Number: 3454  Size: SH
  16. Turn the center puller screw clockwise in order to remove the hub from the crankshaft.
  17. Inspect the crankshaft hub for damage.
  18. Replace if necessary.

  19. Remove the keyway from the crankshaft.
  20. Inspect the crankshaft key for damage.
  21. Replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

J 29113 Crankshaft Pulley Hub Installer


    Object Number: 3449  Size: SH
  1. Coat the engine front cover seal contact area with engine oil.

  2. Object Number: 3450  Size: SH
  3. Apply an approved RTV sealer to the key on the crankshaft.

  4. Object Number: 3451  Size: SH
  5. Install the pulley hub into position over the key on the crankshaft.

  6. Object Number: 3453  Size: SH
  7. Install the J 29113 through the hub and into the crankshaft so that at least 6 mm (0.24 in) of threads are engaged.
  8. Pull the crankshaft pulley hub into position against the J 29113 .
  9. Remove the J 29113 from the crankshaft.
  10. Make sure that the hub is seated against the crankshaft.

  12. Position the crankshaft pulley over the crankshaft pulley hub.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  14. Install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  16. Install the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  18. Lower the vehicle.

  20. Install the engine cooling fan.
  21. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .

  22. Install the fan shroud.
  23. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .

  24. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  25. Object Number: 38205  Size: SH
  26. Connect the battery negative cable.
