Schematic Reference: Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Schematics

DEFINITION: The daytime running lamps operate properly, but the daytime running lamp indicator is inoperative.

Did you review the daytime running lamps (DRL) operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
  3. Ensure the park brake is disengaged.

Does the DRL indicator illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the DRL indicator lamp relay.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire between the DRL indicator control circuit of the DRL indicator lamp relay and a good ground.

Does the DRL indicator illuminate?

Connect a fused jumper wire between the DRL indicator control circuit of the DRL indicator lamp relay and the switch side output circuit of the DRL indicator lamp relay.

  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
  2. Probe the voltage supply circuit of the DRL indicator at the IPC connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Replace the DRL indicator lamp relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the voltage supply circuit of the DRL indicator at the IPC connector and the DRL indicator control circuit at the IPC connector.

Inspect for poor connections at the DRL indicator lamp relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the DRL indicator bulb for an open filament or poor connection. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
