Removal Procedure

Some assemblies may be equipped with an automatic transmission oil cooler in the bottom core tank. Before removing the automatic transmission oil cooler lines, provide a container in order to catch the oil that is drained from the automatic transmission cooler and the lines. Do not reuse the drained fluid. Fill the automatic transmission to the recommended level using clean, new fluid after completing the radiator installation.

Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities in General Information.

  1. Tilt the cab.
  2. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
  5. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  6. Remove the upper radiator hose.

  7. Object Number: 209213 Size: SH
  8. Remove the coolant recovery hose (1) from the radiator.
  9. Remove the automatic transmission oil cooler lines, if equipped.
  10. Remove the lower radiator hose.

  11. Object Number: 209207 Size: SH
  12. Remove the heater hose (1).

  14. Remove the radiator support top cover.

  15. Object Number: 209210 Size: SH
  16. Remove the radiator (1) from the support.
  17. Tilt the radiator in order to remove the radiator from the support.

  18. Remove the radiator insulators.
  19. Clean the radiator.
  20. Refer to Radiator Cleaning .

  21. Inspect the following components:
  22. • The radiator
    • The hoses
    • The mounting hardware
    • Replace the above components as necessary.

Installation Procedure

Important: Always install a new set of insulators when replacing the radiator.

Used insulators may wear out too large for the new radiator, which may cause the radiator to be loose.

  1. Install the radiator insulators.

  2. Object Number: 209210 Size: SH
  3. Install the radiator (1) to the support.
  4. Install the radiator support top cover.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the radiator support top cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the radiator support top cover bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the automatic transmission oil cooler lines, if equipped.
  9. Install the lower radiator hose.

  10. Object Number: 209207 Size: SH
  11. Install the heater hose (1).
  12. Tighten
Tighten the clamp to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

    Object Number: 209213 Size: SH
  13. Install the coolant recovery hose (1) to the radiator.
  14. Tighten
Tighten the clamp to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  15. Install the upper radiator hose clamp.
  16. Tighten
Tighten the clamp to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Fill the cooling system.
  19. Fill the automatic transmission to the proper capacity, if equipped.
  20. Inspect the system for leaks.
  21. Lower the cab.
