Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt the cab.
  2. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Drain the coolant.
  5. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  6. Remove the drive belts.
  7. Refer to Engine Mechanical.

  8. Remove the following components from the pump:
  9. • The fan clutch
    • The adapter (2)
    • Refer to Fan Adapter.
  10. Remove the following components from the water pump:
  11. • The clamp
    • The heater hose

  12. Remove the temperature sensor connector (1).

  13. Object Number: 228206  Size: SH
  14. Remove the bolts from the water duct.
  15. Remove the following components:
  16. • The water duct
    • The O-ring

  17. Remove the water pump bolts.
  18. Remove the following components:
  19. • The water pump
    • The gaskets
  20. Clean the following components:
  21. • The surface of the water pump
    • The surface of the engine block
    • The bolt threads
    • The water duct sealing surfaces
  22. Inspect the following components for wear, deterioration or corrosion.
  23. Replace the components as necessary:

    • The clamps
    • The hoses
    • The water pump

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new gaskets to the water pump.
  2. Install the water pump to the engine block.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the water pump bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump bolts to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  6. Lube the O-ring with soap suds.
  7. Install the following components:
  8. • The water duct
    • The O-ring
  9. Install the water duct bolts.
  10. Tighten

    1. Tighten the M8 bolt to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the M16 bolt to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  11. Install the temperature sensor connector (1).
  12. Install the following components to the water pump:
  13. • The heater hose
    • The clamp

    Tighten
    Tighten the clamp to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  14. Install the following components to the pump:
  15. • The adapter (2)

    Tighten
    Tighten the adapter bolts to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

    • The fan clutch
  16. Install the drive belts.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Fill the cooling system.
  19. Inspect the system for leaks.
  20. Lower the cab.
