Starter Replacement LLV/LLR

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1313639 Size: SH
  1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement for the 2.9L engine or Intake Manifold Replacement for the 3.7L engine.
  2. Remove the starter solenoid S terminal nut (3) and disconnect the lead (4) from the starter.
  3. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.

  4. Remove the starter motor mounting nut (1) and bolt (4).
  5. Remove the starter motor (3) from the engine.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1313646 Size: SH
  1. Position the starter motor (3) over the stud (2).

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the starter motor mounting nut (1) and bolt (4) and tighten to 50 N路m (37 lb ft).

    3. Object Number: 1313639 Size: SH
  3. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).

    4. Tighten the nut to 9 N路m (80 lb in).

  4. Connect the lead (4) to the starter solenoid and install the starter solenoid S terminal nut (3).

    5. Tighten the nut to 3.5 N路m (31 lb in).

  5. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement for the 2.9L engine or Intake Manifold Replacement for the 3.7L engine.

Starter Replacement LH8

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1899202 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the right front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the engine wiring harness/positive battery cable terminal nut (4) and cable terminal (5) from the starter.
  4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the starter motor.
  5. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement.

  6. Remove the transmission cover bolt (1).

    7. Object Number: 663527 Size: SH
  7. Remove the starter motor bolts.

    8. Object Number: 663489 Size: SH
  8. Unsnap the transmission cover from the starter.

    9. Object Number: 663472 Size: SH
  9. Remove the starter heat shield, if required.
  10. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 663472 Size: SH
  1. Install the starter heat shield, if required.

    2. Object Number: 663489 Size: SH
  2. Install the transmission cover to the starter.

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 663527 Size: SH
  3. Position the starter and install the starter motor bolts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N路m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1902155 Size: SH
  4. Install the transmission cover bolt (1).

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N路m (106 lb in).


    Object Number: 1899202 Size: SH
  5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the starter motor.
  6. Install the engine wiring harness/positive battery cable terminal (5) to the starter and install the nut (4).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N路m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement.
  8. Install the right front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
